A DISABLED WOMAN HAS been awarded €3,000 in damages after Aer Arann refused to carry her mobility scooter.
Children’s author Corina Duyn, who lives in Waterford, tried to board a flight from Cork to Edinburgh on August 26 2009. She told an Equality Tribunal hearing she had previously informed Aer Arann she would be travelling with a mobility scooter, and explained which kind of batteries it contained, according to the Irish Times.
However, as she went to get on the plane a Servisair employee told her Aer Arann did not carry batteries like those in her scooter, she could not board and her suitcase had been removed. Ms Duyn had to cancel her trip to speak at the Edinburgh Book Festival.
Aer Arann argued that Ms Duyn had told them the scooter contained a different type of battery.
