You can break your penis

If the penis is violently twisted when erect, it can break. There are no bones in the penis, but the tubes that fill with blood during an erection can burst. Blood pours out of them inside the penis and causes a very painful swelling. Reported cases of penile fracture are rare, but it's thought that some men are too embarrassed to report it to their doctor. Damage during sex, where a partner is on top, is responsible for about one-third of all cases. The breakage usually occurs when a man's penis slips out of his partner and is violently bent.

Men have several night-time erections

On average, a healthy man has three to five erections during a full night's sleep, with each erection lasting 25-35 minutes. It's common for men to wake up with an erection, informally called a "morning glory". This is in fact the last in the series of night-time erections. The cause of night-time erections isn't fully understood. However, studies suggest they are closely associated with the phase of sleep known as REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. This is when dreaming is most common. Whatever their cause, most doctors agree that night-time erections are a sign that everything is in working order.

Penis length is not linked to foot size

The idea that the size of your penis is in proportion to your shoe size is a myth, according to a study published in the British Journal of Urology International. Researchers at University College London measured the penises of 104 men, including teenagers and pensioners. The average penis length in this group was 13cm (5.1 inches) when soft and gently stretched, and the average British shoe size was nine (43 European size). However, researchers found no link between shoe size and penis length.

Small penises make big erections

Shorter penises increase more in length than longer ones when they become erect. Research based on the penis measurements of 2,770 men found that shorter penises increased by 86% when erect, nearly twice that of longer penises (47%). In the 1988 study published in the Journal of Sex Research, researchers also found that the difference in length between a short penis and a longer one was a lot less obvious when erect than when flaccid. For example, the flaccid penises varied in length by 3.1cm (1.2 inches), whereas the average erect lengths differed by only 1.7cm (0.67 inches).

The penis is not a muscle

Contrary to popular belief, the so-called love muscle doesn't contain any muscles. That's why you can't move it very much when it's erect. The penis is a kind of sponge that fills with blood when a man is sexually excited. Blood builds up inside two cylinder-shaped chambers, causing the penis to swell and stiffen. The swelling blocks off the veins that normally take blood away from the penis. As an erection disappears, the arteries in the two chambers narrow again, allowing blood to drain away from the penis.

Is masturbation safe?

Yes. For the record, masturbating doesn't cause blindness, insanity, or acne and won't make hair grow on your palms. Joking aside, there's no risk of pregnancy or catching a sexually transmitted infection (STI) from masturbating, although there is a risk of infection if you touch someone else's genitals and then touch your own. This is because STIs can be passed on through infected semen or vaginal fluid.

There is a risk of infection if you use sex toys during masturbation and someone else with an STI has used them before you. Any object used in sex can be called a sex toy, whether it's designed for this use or not. It's important to keep sex toys clean. Can you injure yourself when masturbating?

Masturbating will not affect a man's ability to produce sperm. Men will not run out of sperm, as they produce it continuously. After a man has ejaculated, it will take some time before he can ejaculate again. This is normal and doesn't mean there is anything wrong with his sperm.

John Allison was arrested for allegedly exposing his penis in a grocery store and rubbing a piece of pepperoni against it.

A man in upstate New York got a taste of jail after being arrested for allegedly exposing his penis in a grocery store and rubbing it with a stick of pepperoni.

Police arrested John Allison, 41, Wednesday night after a loss prevention officer allegedly noticed the suspect's saucy behavior on security video.

“I watched him go to the back of the store near the beer and the bakery sections. The guy was standing in a corner ... I thought he was going to steal some merchandise. Instead, he undid what I thought might be his belt. I then saw him unzip his pants,” the unidentified store worker said according to the Watertown Daily Times.

Allison then rubbed a packaged stick of pepperoni on his exposed package before putting the no w-tainted deli meat back on the store shelf, WWNYTV.com reported.

Allison was charged with public lewdness and fourth-degree criminal mischief since the store was unable to sell the penis-rubbed pepperoni. He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail, but has since been released on a $2,000 bond, according to the International Business Times.

As gross as Allison's alleged acts may sound, he's not the only person who's gotten touchy in public recently.

Jared Weston Walter, 26, was arrested last week for allegedly masturbating and ejaculating on the heads of bus passengers in Portland, Oregon.

A martial arts star is suing a Philadelphia sex shop for selling him a personal lubricant that he claims permanently disfigured his penis and left it dysfunctional.

In papers filed in court, Michael Waylon Lowe says the Kama Sutra Pleasure Balm Prolonging Gel burned and scarred his genitals. He purchased the product at The Mood shop, which is also named in the suit.

The product’s active ingredient is benzocaine, which is safe and used in a number of other products.

In the complaint, filed May 14, Lowe says he used the desensitizing gel previously without incident. But last September, he was using it during sex with his fiancée when Lowe “began to experience excruciating pain and pressure in his penis," the lawsuit states. "He removed the condom and his penis swelled significantly. He sought emergency medical treatment and follow-up care thereafter."

The complaint accuses the defendants of negligence and product liability for failing to provide proper instructions, warn users of risks, and design and test the gel to ensure its safety.

Lowe suffered "catastrophic and permanent damage," the complaints says, including penile scarring, loss of sensation and function; nerve and tissue damage; humiliation, embarrassment and mental anguish; lost wages and earning capacity; and loss of life's pleasures.”

Lowe is seeking $50,000 in damages.

Marla Lee, president of the company that makes and markets the gel, called Lowe's claims "flabbergasting," saying the lubricant is one of the 44-year-old company's original and most popular products, with more than 1 million units sold.

Lowe has competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Pro Elite and other circuits since 2006. He earned several national collegiate wrestling titles and trained at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado.

The sexual harassment lawsuit against one Brett Lorenzo Favre, filed in January 2011 by two female massage therapists who worked for the Jets, has been resolved. Late Friday afternoon, long after most people had shoved off for the long holiday weekend, the AP reported that a settlement had been reached, though it's not entirely clear whether that's even true, since much of the case file has been placed under seal.

Elizabeth Eilender, an attorney who represented plaintiffs Christina Scavo and Shannon O'Toole, would only tell us via email that "the Case is resolved and it is being discontinued with prejudice." She would neither confirm nor deny whether there had been a settlement agreement. But this much is certain: Favre fought successfully to get the really good stuff—transcripts, depositions, evidence like photos of his dick, etc.—hidden from public view.

We went to the state Supreme Court building in Manhattan today to take a look at the case file. It's a stack of documents two feet high, and nearly all of those documents contain procedural wrangling and legalese. But there was still some good material to be found. To wit:

• Even though Scavo's and O'Toole's suit against the Jets had (mostly) been dismissed in April 2012, their attorneys sent the NFL a subpoena in December 2012 to try to get details of the league's investigation into Favre's sexting activity. Whether the terms of that subpoena were fulfilled appears to be part of what's under seal.

• The plaintiffs' attorneys tried really, really hard to keep Favre's dick a matter of public record in the case file. In September 2012, they presented as evidence photos (in color!) of Favre's dick that appeared on Deadspin. Favre was never accused of sending Scavo and O'Toole any dick pics; those were sent to another Jets employee, Jenn Sterger. But Scavo's and O'Toole's lawyers tried to argue those dick pics were relevant to this case.

Soon after, the case file shows, Favre's attorneys wrote this letter to the Honorable Justice Milton A. Tingling:

A short time after that, Favre was granted a protective order that placed any really good stuff under seal.

• According to a later filing from Favre's attorneys, things had gotten pretty comical before that protective order was granted:

"... the requests to admit sought to obtain a judicial admission as to whether a graphic image of a penis, which plaintiffs apparently copied from a gossip website, depicted Favre. Upon the defendants' motion for a protective order, the parties spent hours with the Court and with Mr. Tavares, the Court's law clerk, discussing each and every request to admit, whether each was relevant, and if relevant, the best manner to obtain the discovery sought therein."

Alas, with the apparent settlement, the American judiciary has now closed the book on Brett Favre's penis.
