Mobility Scooter finds worthy home after Sutton appeal

A former builder who offered to donate a mobility scooter to a reader-in-need has chosen someone to receive it.
John Boyne, from Ridge Road, Sutton, handed the £1300 scooter to Jean Woods at her home in Morden earlier this month.
Mr Boyne had offered the scooter to Sutton Guardian readers who needed it, after reading a story in the newspaper about 87-year-old Emily Buckfield, who thought her scooter had been stolen.
He contacted the newspaper to offer his vehicle to Mrs Buckfield, but her scooter was returned to her after being taken by mistake by a neighbour's son.
So he offered it instead to other readers in need.
He decided to give it to Mrs Woods after a chance meeting in Sainsbury's in North Cheam on Saturday, October 1.
Mr Boyne saw she was using an ageing scooter, so told her and her husband Tony about his appeal.
They told him how much a new scooter would help Mrs Woods, 73, who has osteoporosis, and kidney problems, because her current scooter often broke, meaning Mr Woods, an ex serviceman, had to push her around in the heavy vehicle.
Both Mr Boyne and Mr Woods identified with each other after they both recently lost parts of their lungs through cancer.
Mr Boyne said: "I couldn't be giving it to nicer people who really need it. I'm delighted they are so pleased."
Mrs Woods said: "I have never had any luck in but today I feel really lucky. I'm so very grateful to Mr Boyne and his family. This will really transform our lives."
