American Association of People with Disabilities, Interfaith Initiative

American Association of People with Disabilities, Interfaith Initiative

Led by long-time disability activist and writer Ginny Thornburgh, the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) Interfaith Initiative assists people with disabilities and their families who seek to fully participate in their religious and spiritual communities. This Interfaith Intiative also, in the words of its mission statement, brings a "powerful and prophetic voice of the faith community to the 21st century disability agenda."

Among the AAPD's Interfaith Initiative services are disability publications, opportunities to join the "Accessible Congregations Campaign," support for organizing fruitful dialogue between the disability community and religious organizations, avenues for spiritual leaders to work towards eliminating disability-based barriers to full religious participation, and assistance in problem-solving.

Visitors to the AAPD's website will find numerous resources, including a newsletter, descriptions of AAPD's other programs, a "Justice for All" blog, and links to sites for social networking.

Congregational, denominational, and seminary leaders—as well as those with disabilities—will find this organization and its website helpful.
